Mental Health Trustee Work

As a philanthropist, I recognise that I have had a privileged life that has had some moments of poor mental health. Whilst in good health I am a trustee and have a passion to help govern, assist with strategy, raise funds and awareness of the charity Mind in Mid Herts (MiMH) which I am a trustee of.

Becoming a trustee for MiMH - Responsible for the governance and strategy of the charity with the aim to provide the community of Hertfordshire the necessary prevention, social support and recovery for mental health!

Mental Health Qualifications

NCFE CACHE Level 2 - Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems

I wanted to increase my understanding of symptoms and management of different mental health problems, including stress, anxiety, phobias, depression, dementia, eating disorders and schizophrenia. Also gained an understanding of mental health legislation and guidance to manage and support people with mental illness. Mental health presents one of the greatest challenges to our society. With an estimated, 450 million people worldwide suffering from a mental health problem, around a quarter of British adults will experience some form of mental health problem within the course of a year. While many elements of mental health are still not understood, having a good knowledge of the information that is available is important.

Mental Health Peer Supporter

As a peer supporter, I take action to raise awareness of mental health and challenge stigma. Stigma is when we make assumptions about how a mental health problem will affect someone's behaviour. In turn, this makes it more likely that they will be labelled as different, strange, or even dangerous. I also help those who are experiencing mental health problems by signposting them to appropriate support services, both within and outside of my workplace.

Why Mind In Mid Herts?

Mental health cases are on the rise in the UK faster than the NHS and mental health charities can handle... I see it as one of the largest growing concerns for our society.

My own struggles…

My adventures are ways I deal with my own anxiety. I know first hand the implications of mental health having suffered with anxiety for many years. After being diagnosed with this condition I have spent much of my life learning how to cope and embrace it as a new opportunity for personal growth. In doing so it has allowed me to tackle fear head on and achieve things that I would never have thought possible prior to the diagnosis. It has actually made me stronger…

Why I support Mind in Mid Herts?
There are a lot of charities that support the notion of being outside to improve mental health and one of the best known and largest of them is the affiliated company of Mind in Mid Herts called “Mind the National Association for Mental Health (NAMH) in England and Wales”. As I live in Hertfordshire and Mind in Mid Herts covers the Hertfordshire region it was the first prerequisite for my decision to support them.
